This site is dedicated to the 78 RPM Seeburg Library Unit, the advent of the groundbreaking Select-O-Matic Mechanism.
Quick background.
Although I've owned various jukeboxes over the years my preference has been the 78 RPM. While doing some searches on eBay back in 2014 I bumped into this thing called a "Library Unit". It wasn't long before I found Seeburg Ed's exceptional web site dedicated to the "non-coin-operated Seeburg jukeboxes". While the site is geared primarily toward the 45 RPM Library Units, it also speaks to the 78 RPM. It was here I gained a history.
While not everyone's "cup of tea" the Library Unit was intriguing to me for a few reasons. As mentioned, it is non-coin-operated, so if I was crazy enough to locate, purchase and tackle one of these projects, I would not need to be concerned with the coin mechanism. Another bonus would be the lack of a pinbank and all that goes with it. Instead record selections are easily made via mechanically flipped levers. Finally, the unit would provide the means to conveniently store and play 200 sides of music! Yes, one could argue to instead place two M100A's side by side, but where's the fun in that? Instead, I decided to pursue something that's both challenging as well as a true piece of history.
This machine introduced the wonder and astonishment of the Select-O-Matic mechanism to the world. April 1948 welcomed the Library Unit and December 1948 the M100A.
And the rest as they say is history.
